About K.A.S.
Welcome to Copenhagen Amateur-Yachtclub in Svanemøllen Marina, 1,200 members and founded in 1891, one of Denmark's largests and oldest sailing clubs. In K.A.S. you will join a diverse group of sailors who enjoy sailing on a wide variety of boats, from traditional gaffers to classic wooden ships, from modern cruisers to advanced racers - and quite some motorboats.
Whether you are completely new to sailing or an experienced yachtie you will find something to your taste in K.A.S. Thanks to our enthusiastic members, K.A.S. is a highly active sailing community offering a range of activities and services spanning from sailing education and race training on all levels, weekly races around the cans, major national and international regattas as well as cruising, and a rich social life in our clubhouse and marina. Our sailing season starts in late April and runs til end October but even during the winter, you will find enthusiasts on the water if it is open and ice free.
K.A.S. main focus areas are our sailing school, our regatta sailing academy, and our more than 600 members who are boat owners.
Our sailing school offers a full, two year practical and navigational curriculum after which you may pass the Danish Maritime Authority's exam for the 'Certificate of Competency for Recreational Sailors', which is internationally recognized. With the 'Certificate of Competency for Recreational Sailors', you will be able to acquire the K.A.S. Skipper License which gives access to use the sailing school's boats when they are not used for educational purposes. With the 'Certificate of Competency for Recreational Sailors', you will also be able to sail as a mate, together with a Yacht Master of 3rd or 1st class, on recreational vessels between 15 and 24 meters in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, around the British Isles, Norway, the Faroe Islands and along the coasts of Greenland. Also, the certificate gives access to the test for the Danish Yacht Master 3rd Class.
The school's classic gaff-rigged sailing vessels are alive in a way no other boat could ever be and hold tons of maritime heritage.
Although many of our instructors are fully capable in English, our courses are basically run in Danish. For safety reasons, all commands on board are given in Danish.
Please contact kas@kas.dk if you want to join the sailing school.
K.A.S. Racing offers sailors with different levels of sailing accomplishment to go through an ambitious regatta training scedule to get more speed in the water and more knowledge about tactics and meteorology around the race course.
